The difference between wet puffing and dry puffing of corn

There are many factors affecting corn puffing, the main reasons are moisture content, puffing temperature, puffing pressure, etc., which are also several factors that can be controlled in the current puffing production, and it is very simple to control these factors to produce corn puffing products.

Corn puffed products are divided into dry method and wet method, many users think that adding water is wet method, do not add water is dry method, this is only the surface meaning. The so-called wet bulking refers to a process in which one or more raw materials are produced by steam preconditioning, extrusion, bulking, shearing and other processes, while the biggest difference between dry bulking and dry bulking is that there is no need for steam conditioning process and direct bulking. Dry bulking as opposed to wet bulking means that the bulking machine does not require an external heat source or steam. Even with water, it’s a dry process. The purpose of wet expansion is to raise the temperature of the material, soften and mature the material, and add a certain amount of water. Wet bulking is more efficient than dry bulking, and the service life of spiral and bulking cavity wearing parts is longer, the reason is: if the material bulking temperature is 130℃, dry bulking from room temperature (20℃) to 130℃ need to rise 110℃; If the wet method is used for production, the tempering temperature is 80℃, and the material temperature only needs to be increased by 50℃. Therefore, the mechanical energy required for wet bulking is less than that for dry bulking, and more energy can be used to increase the yield. Due to the softening of the material, the wear of the wearing parts such as spiral and expansion cavity is reduced and its service life is increased.

In general, wet production is more efficient than dry production, the investment is larger than dry production, and a steam boiler is required. When producing extruded corn, whether to use the dry method or the wet method depends on the specific situation of the user and the product requirements.
