I. Introduction of Co-extrusion Coarse Rice Bar

Co-extrusion coarse rice bar consists of two parts: the shell outside and the sandwich inside. The raw material for the puffed grain shell is brown rice. The brown rice is crushed, hydrated/mixed, and gelatinized to a certain degree under a certain temperature and pressure, and then extruded into “long square hollow bar” by a mold. The sandwich part is peanut butter. Peanut butter is injected into the long hollow tube during it is being extruded out from the die. When the long brown rice tube is still soft, it is quickly adjusted to a more standard square shape by a shaping machine and cut to the required size. After that, it goes through the baking process, seasoning process, and packing process until it is completed.

Brown rice is the caryopsis consisting of inner protective skin, endosperm and germ after removing the husk. The inner protective cortex contains more crude fibers and has a rough taste. Due to the dense texture, cooking takes a long time. So pre-gelatinization process is carried out before extrusion cooking, that is, a pre-conditioner is added above the extruder of the snacks.

  • Twin screw extruder for snacks is suitable for a wide range of grain raw materials: it can process viscous, oily, sticky or very wet material and some other products. Processable grain sizes: from fine powder to granule.
  • Puffed brown rice bars of different shapes can be produced by choosing different shaping machines, such as cylinder shape.
  • Both the thickness of the puffed shell part of brown rice bars and the filled amount of the sandwich part can be changed with different extrusion dies.
  • Injection molds are suitable for fillings of various colors or flavors: syrup, honey syrup, jam, milk, chocolate sauce, peanut butter.
