The expanded feed is not only suitable for materials with high starch and fat content because of the gelatinization of starch, but also because of the high temperature and high pressure aging, the disinfection and sterilization effect is more obvious, and the applicability is strong, and the feed resources that can be expanded are more extensive. It is precisely because of the advantages of extruded processing that more and more feed mills begin to extrude aquatic feed.

At present, the main working principle of the feed extruder machine used in the feed mill is to contain a certain amount of starch (more than 20%) of the powder material, by the tempering treatment, so that the material moisture can reach 25% ~ 27%, and the temperature rises to 80℃ ~ 100℃. The fish feed expander is composed of feeding system, transmission system, extrusion system, discharge mold and electrical control system. The well-conditioned material enters the screw extrusion zone, because the volume of the extrusion zone gradually decreases along the axis, the pressure on the material gradually increases, and the compression ratio can reach 4 ~ 10. The material is pushed by screw extrusion, accompanied by strong shear and friction, the pressure and temperature rise sharply, the material under the action of high temperature and high pressure, the starch can be basically completely gelatinized, and the protein is partially deformed. When the material is extruded from the die hole by extreme pressure, due to the sudden departure from the body into the atmosphere, the temperature and pressure drop, under the combined action of pressure difference and temperature difference, the feed volume expands rapidly, the material flashes, that is, the water evaporates rapidly, dehydration and solidification, and then through the customized discharge mold to achieve the required various shapes and structures, the expanded pellet feed is made.

In addition, there is an expander, which has a higher yield, and is a kind of equipment for conditioning before pelleting, similar to the fish food bulking machine, and the material processed through expansion has the same advantages as bulking, but the production of aquatic feed generally needs to be pelleted again. At present, the main structure of the expander selected by the domestic feed mill is similar to that of the expander. The difference is that:

(1) The outlet opening of the expander can be adjusted arbitrarily within a certain range (the expansion machine is not adjustable for a specific discharge mold);

(2) It is precisely because of the characteristics of (1) that the extrusion pressure of the screw on the material can be adjusted within a certain range, so that various expansion materials with different expansion rates can be produced according to the needs;

(3) The expander can directly produce expanded coarse chips, or the special equipment for heat treatment before pelleting can be used to produce expanded particles.
